The Tribe Totnes

Design Brief

One of the joys of being a small business is the ability to work from home, not much changed in our world when lockdown happened as we already had a set up at home. HOWEVER we also like to work in an office environment, so when we learned that a new work-hub was being set up within our locality we jumped at the chance to get involved. Having connected with the brains behind The Tribe Co-working Space, Stacey Sheppard of award-winning Interiors Blog The Design Sheppard, we quickly struck up a friendship over a shared passion for design. We work alongside Stacey to help her pull together her dream Co-working space.

Her brief was to “create a community driven coworking space that catered to creative, growth-oriented female entrepreneurs by providing an inspiring working environment designed to foster collaboration, connection and support”.

Design

Stacey had a very clear idea as to how she wanted the space to look, and more importantly, feel. The only challenge was that the contemporary space had to work within the confines of a 17th century building with low ceilings and irregular walls. Rather then try to mask the fact, we embraced all that was quirky and it became part of the language and charm of the new office environment.

Blended with current thinking’s into how positive workspace design can lead to a less stressful and more productive atmosphere while incorporating biophilic design into the scheme by using natural materials and plenty of greenery, we have created a space that employs a positive mindset for all users of this space.

So why is this project on the Domestic page you may ask? Well what makes this space unique is the desire to create a space that went beyond the need for a work hub. Stacey wanted to create a space where the users could feel relaxed, creative and productive “ A home away from home, if you like, where like-minded women could gather together to work, connect, and thrive”. As users of this gem we can stand behind the fact that this design more then answers that call.

Testimonial

I feel super lucky to have had YBRD work on the design & fit out of my coworking space in Totnes. As soon as I met Caoimhe and explained my vision to her, I knew she had listened to every word and completely understood what I was looking to create.

Her advice and guidance was so valuable along with her knowledge of local trades people and suppliers. I couldn’t have been happier with the outcome, I really feel like she helped to turn my vision into reality, but in a way that was better than I could have imagined. The service was friendly but professional and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending YBRD.
